Hey guys! This is my first post (I haven't had a working computer in about a year so I'm a bit slow to get on this). I figured a Halloween mix was in order so I edited down a 55 song witch themed playlist Mike and I have been working on for a while to a listenable best of. And I'm Here To Remind You... of the 90s

I've been meaning to make a commercial 90s mix for a long time now, but I couldn't decide whether to do:
early middle school 90s music reminiscent of YMCA dances with my first black boyfriend who was chubby and wore sports goggles all the time
or
songs that were written in the 90s and are still good today
or
songs that were just very representative of commercial 90s music.

So here are all three mixes because I couldn't pick just one mix to make. The true 90s fans can download all three and make a mega-3-hour mix.

Shoop (aka YMCA dances with Michael Bess)

Here Comes the Hotstepper - Ini Kamoze
Slam - Onyx
No Diggity - Blackstreet
Shoop - Salt N' Pepa
Rump Shaker - Wreckx -N- Effect
I Got A Man - Positive K
Tha Crossroads - Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
Killing Me Softly - The Fugees
The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly) - Missy Elliott
Waterfalls - TLC
Informer - Snow

You Oughta Know (aka Iconic Commercial 90s Music)

The Way - Fastball
Allison Road - Gin Blossoms
Laid - James
How Bizzare - OMC
Closer - Nine Inch Nails
Sex and Candy - Marcy Playground
Criminal - Fiona Apple
Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead O'Connor
Under The Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Far Behind - Candlebox
Alive - Pearl Jam
Shine - Collective Soul

It's a mixtery!

Well, here's a mix. It might be a bit drone heavy, so sorry in advance if you don't like that shit. But you could always do some drugs, that usually makes music better. The mix shaped up differently than first planned but I think it flows pretty well. And it has a couple of my favorite songs from my favorite albums from this year on it, so there. . .

Download this shit and enjoy, fuckheads:

Tie Your Shoes

I started by just putting some songs together without any real theme when I realized the first 5 I'd selected were all British groups. So everybody on this mix is a Brit, except for the Eddy Current Suppression Ring who are from Australia. The Aussies still pretend to care about what the Queen Mum is up to, I think, so the theme still holds together, sort of.

1. I'll Come Running - Brian Eno & The Winkies
2. Kirsty Cooper - The Yummy Fur
3. Can't Cheat Karma - Zounds
4. Anxiety - Eddy Current Suppression Ring
5. Runaway Pram - David Cronenberg's Wife
6. Secrets In Welsh - Country Teasers
7. Clamour Club - Gods Gift
8. Polly (Single Mix, Mono) - The Kinks
9. Muggy Weather - Dan Melchior und Das Menace
10. Blackberry Way - The Move
11. Temporary Secretary - Paul McCartney
12. Midnight In Aspen - The Fall

It's been too hot for too long.

Toxic Megacolon (Not for the faint of heart or gut)

I don't want to glut our earwaves, but I can't wait anymore to post this mix. (I now have a backlog going). This isn't quite a BBQ mix for you Jeff, plus you already have it--albeit without the song information, but it rocks quite enough. Balances out Karl's tragedies. But I have the beginnings of a BBQ mix going, just need to organize it.
Anyway: to explain the name. Toxic Megacolon is my new metal band. It is also something, when I was in the hospital, that the asshole doctor said I might get from taking too many painkillers. Basically you stop shitting, everything gets backed up, and your colon explodes. I was going to include a drawing of it, but it's pretty nasty. So I'll leave it to your imagination.
I hope this primes you all to enjoy!

1. Rush - Anthem
2. Dillinger Escape Plan - Milk Lizard
3. Harvey Milk - After All I've Done For You, This is How You Repay Me?
4. Shrinebuilder - The Architect
5. Wolfmother - California Queen
6. Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso UFO - Pussy Head Man from Outer Space
7. Earthless - Cherry Red
8. ZZ Top - Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers
9. Boris - Pink
10. Electric Wizard - We Hate You
11. Jucifer - To Earth
12. Baroness - Jake Leg
13. Blue Oyster Cult - Tattoo Vampire
14. Mastodon - Quintessence
15. Wooden Shjips - Aquarian Time
16. Earth - Miami Morning Coming Down II (Shine)

PS Whoever posted that Pebbles mix seems to have changed the whole layout of the blog--plus there's no link to the mix unless you go into the "edit posts" thing. Just thought I'd mention that.

Alex Chilton

I was seriously shocked and saddened when I heard the news of Alex Chilton's death Wednesday night. I decided to throw together a mix of some my favorite non-Big Star Chilton songs.

Here's a super detailed article about Chilton's Solo work.

Pebble Nuggets

Some of you may have heard of the Pebbles series. Those of you who haven't have probably heard of Nuggets. Nuggets is a Garage/Psychedelic Comp compiled by Lenny Kaye (former Patti Smith guitarist). It's a great comp, but it only begins to scratch the surface. Pebbles was the answer to it. It’s what you get if Freddy Kruger is the guy scratching the surface (get it? he's got knives for fingers). This comp is MASSIVE (28 Volumes released from 1979-1985). This mix is just a small taste of what it has to offer. Enjoy!

Haunted - 1-2-5
Lyrics - So What!!
Dovers - What Am I Going To Do?

Jeff in the Night

This is the first part of a heavy mix I made for Jeff--and now I will share with all of you lucky bastards. I'll save part two for a few days from now, just to space out our posts. We need time to listen and digest our songs. But you better get ready--enough of your wimpy music. This will make your ears bleed, or something. If you turn it up loud. But you don't have to, if you want quiet time. That's okay, I understand. Sometimes I like it to be quiet too.

Posting Instructions

Uploading:

Create a new Folder on your computer with the name of your "Mix".

In iTunes, select your playlist.
Highlight all the songs in the playlist and drag them from itunes into your "Mix" Folder.
Go to File -> Library -> Export playlist
Export the playlist as an .xml and save it in your "Mix" folder with the mp3s.

Now zip up the folder. On a mac, right click on the folder and select "Compress [mix]" I'm not sure how to on a PC.

Upload the zip file to DivShare (Rapidshare and Mediafire will delete them), and post the link along with any other info you'd like to share about your mix or the songs on it.

Downloading:

Download the .zip file, and unzip it. Put the mp3s into itunes however you like to do it. Then go to File -> Liberry -> Import Playlist
Select the playlist .xml in the mix folder you unzipped.

That should do it. Listen to it and post any comments to the mix post.

I know it sounds kind of complicated, but it really only takes a couple seconds. Unless you're an idiot.
